(USDA) biological priority plan to launch a voluntary product certification and biological priority (SM) certification.

Bio based product label

The plan is to provide certification for products manufactured from renewable resources.

Under this plan, the biological priority (BioPreferred) product certification has established a certain number of biological base content. According to the bio based product procurement priority plan, about 5100 products already have the procurement qualification of the federal agency.

The labeling scheme will help promote the sales of biologically based products in the commercial and consumer markets, and will also help federal buyers to identify such products in the procurement process.

"Nowadays consumers are more and more fond of choosing products that are educational for families," said Catherine Merrigan, Vice Minister of agriculture of the US Department of agriculture (Kathleen Merrigan).

"This label will help consumers identify biological products easier when making decisions.

These products have great potential to create green employment opportunities for rural communities, increase the value of agricultural products, reduce environmental impact, and reduce our dependence on imported oil. "

According to the US Department of agriculture, there are about 20000 kinds of bio based products made in the United States, and more than 100000 jobs depend on bio based industries.

The introduction of bio priority labels has been recognized by some companies, such as DuPont Co of Wilmington, Delaware, the DuPont Sorona biodiesel based polymer, and the Sma rtstrand carpet of Mohawk industries, Georgia.

"We are actively working to develop more high-performance biobased materials, and we believe that this labelling plan will accelerate the development of the whole industrial bio based products and create new employment opportunities," said Craig F. Binetti, President of DuPont applied bioscience.
