India's Clothing Exports To Japan Increased By 50%

India and Japan signed a historic comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA).


ShriPremalUdani, President of India Garment Export Promotion Committee (AEPC), congratulated ShriAnandSharma, Minister of industry and commerce.

CEPA is one of the largest agreements signed between India and Japan, and Japan's GDP is US $5 trillion.

According to the agreement, about 94% of the tariffs between Japan and India will be abolished within 10 years, accounting for 97% of Japan's trade value.

The CEPA negotiations began in November 2004, and after 14 rounds of negotiations, a principled agreement was reached in September 2010.

A historic agreement was signed in February 16, 2011.


ShriPremalUdani said that due to the signing of the CEPA agreement, the India Garment Export Promotion Association held a large-scale clothing exhibition at the Tokyo International Fashion Expo in 2009 &2010.

CEPA also organized a fashion show at these two events to predict the potential of India's clothing.

Clothes are evenly distributed.

India is one of Japan's five largest suppliers of clothing.

The export volume and amount of synthetic fiber clothing are the largest.


ShriUdani also said that knitted and woven garments will be exempt from tariffs on the date of entry into force of the agreement.

The effective duty is about 11%, and now the exporters of clothing in India do not have to pay customs duties.

India's clothing exports to Japan will grow by about 50%.

The Tokyo International Fashion Expo July 2011 20-22 has been planned to hold an exhibition of textiles and clothing.

He said that due to the signing of the agreement, the India garment export promotion association will have extensive contacts with the main buyers.

At the recent 2011 India textile trend exhibition, 98 Japanese buyers visited the exhibition, indicating that India's high quality clothing exports to Japan are growing.
