EU Officials Welcome Greece's New Austerity Measures

Ollie Ryan, member of charge of economic and monetary affairs, welcomed the announcement of new fiscal tightening measures on the day of Greece 11, and urged the euro area countries to implement relevant decisions made at the July special summit as soon as possible.
In a written statement issued on the same day, he said that the Greek government announced a package of new austerity measures including the levy on the real estate industry on the same day. He welcomed the determination of the Greek government to resolutely achieve the target of deficit reduction this year and next year, and said that these new measures will greatly help achieve these goals.
Ryan said that the staff of the European Commission will go to Athens in the next few days to provide the necessary technical support for Greece. Once Greece meets the requirements, the joint group composed of the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund will complete the assessment of Greece by the end of September.
Ryan also urged euro zone member states to approve the resolution at the euro special summit held in July 21st as soon as possible, and expressed the hope that the euro zone finance ministers in Poland could solve all the remaining problems.

The second round of aid programmes and the expansion of the scope of the European financial stability tools have been decided, but these decisions remain to be ratified by the parliaments of the member states.
