The Burma Times reported that the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson (Boris Johnson) government has indicated that Britain will maintain its access to the Burma market after the British separation from the EU in the future. No matter whether the EU has violated human rights in Burma, it has decided to withdraw its trade preferences with Burma.

The head of the British Embassy in Burma, who is responsible for trade and investment, also said that regardless of whether Britain quit the EU in October, the UK is committed to maintaining Burma's GSP general trade tariff preferences at least 2 to 3 years.

According to the EU trade agreement, Burma enjoys all tariff free exemptions except weapons and ammunition. How will the UK become the second largest economy in Europe and establish its own foreign trade policy with the third countries? The United Kingdom believes that the current arrangement to maintain trade preferences for Burma is a moral and responsible manifestation.

Burma exported about $415 million to Britain in 2018, mainly clothing, frozen fish and food. One of the most important is the clothing industry, which has enabled poor young women in Burma to enjoy decent work and fair wages. All British policies towards Burma should be judged according to how to influence the poorest and most vulnerable groups. The 6 European chambers of Commerce in Yangon expressed their views to Brussels, the EU headquarters. The abolition of preferential tariff would undoubtedly have an adverse effect on the employment opportunities of the most vulnerable people in Burma. The EU threatened to abolish trade preferences and will impact the livelihood of the employees of Burma garment industry.
